From the recording Time Gives Way
I am nostalgic. For afternoons lying on my stomach reading popup books in the hallway. For holding hands with my shy boyfriend deep in the pockets of his leather jacket. For the sandy, pink feet of toddlers splashing through sea foam. There is never enough. Time, energy, vision. Google Photos doesn’t make it all better. One season is sacrificed for the next. And our people grow or pass beyond us. I need more. For myself and for those we couldn’t keep. Like Mary.
Mary lived in a broken down rental on the Oregon coast. She loved her dogs and cats because they loved her back. She was an avid reader of fantasy and a catalog purveyor of clever gifts. Considering her many losses and her intelligence, her kindness was miraculous. May it be reckoned to her as faith in the house of love. Until then, dear.
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:2
And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever. Rev. 22:5
Lyrics
the light played on, the air felt fine / high road winding up against the pine / there was summer’s basil and friends ‘round the table / colors run together in my mind
so take me to the house of love / no shadows on the house of love / all the years that weren’t enough meet me on that day / what was lost will find me then / hope won’t break my heart again / love will take me to the end on the livelong day
could be Colorado, maybe Kahalu’u / lightning rising or shoal of turquoise blue / I live for longing, and I sweet talk the dawning / Earth, she smiles, and we remember you
so take me to the house of love / no shadows on that house of love / all the views I’ve given up greet me on that day / what was lost will find me then / hope won’t break my heart again, no / love will take me past the end on the livelong day
where the faith in me grew numb 'cuz heroes didn’t come / the river still can run / and one day dreams will never die / we won’t regret the time / we’ll see eye to eye to eye
so take me to the house of love / no shadows on the house of love / all the songs we lost track of will sing us on that day / what was lost will find us then / hope won’t break our hearts again / love will take us past the end on the livelong day / on the livelong day
